In 1988, the entire surgical department at the Edmonton General Hospital was moved to the newly opened Grey Nuns Hospital. It became very busy as Millwoods grew quickly and hospital served the south eastern part of Edmonton. . Medcore was formed in the early 1980's as a partnership of 4 General/Vascular surgeons working at the Edmonton General Hospital. Their goal was to not only provide excellent quality care but also to ensure a shared continuity of care for all their patients. In 1993, after the move to Millwoods, and a change in personnel,  Medcore became Surgicorp Inc. specializing in General & Vascular surgery, and Intensive care.    Over the last 30 years, with the addition of ten more Surgeons and with our specialized support staff we now serve the needs of 4750 patients per year.  In the last year our Surgeons did 3000 office consults, 1000 inpatient consults and 750 virtual consults.  In addition there were 4000 follow up visits half of which were virtual.  The majority are from Edmonton and Northern Alberta but also from Yukon and the Northwest Territory, Central zone and British Columbia.    The 14 Surgeons specialities now include the separate specialties of General and Vascular Surgery but also various sub-specialties, that include Breast Cancer, Oncology (Cancer Surgery) including advanced GI malignancy, Colorectal, Minimal Invasive Surgery (MIS), Trauma and Endovascular surgery.  All of our Surgeons operate at the Grey Nuns Hospital with the Vascular Surgeons and Trauma specialists also working at the University of Alberta and Royal Alexandra Hospital. Some of our General Surgeons also work at the Cross Cancer Institute.  Our spacious clinic at the Tawa Centre in south Edmonton has over 9000 square feet with multiple exam rooms including two operating rooms for minor procedures such as sclerotherapy for treatment of varicose veins and minor colorectal interventions
