Dr. Turnbull graduated with his MD from the University of Alberta in 1989. He completed a rotating internship at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton in 1989-1990, followed by his residency in General Surgery at the University of Alberta Hospital from 1990-1995.

He completed his MSc in Experimental Surgery in 1993 at the University of Alberta.

Dr. Turnbull completed a fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the University of British Columbia in 1996-1998.

Dr. Winkelaar attended medical school at the University of Alberta and received his Doctor of Medicine with Distinction in 1991. He completed a rotating internship at the Grey Nuns Hospital from 1991-1992.

Dr. Winkelaar then completed a residency in General Surgery at the University of Alberta in 1997 during which he completed a Master of Science in Experimental Surgery in 1995. He was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1997.

Dr. Winkelaar then attended the University of British Columbia where he completed a fellowship in Vascular Surgery in 1999 at which time he received his Certificate of Special Competence in Vascular Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Gunn joined the Northern Alberta Vascular Group in 2016. She completed      her medical school at the University of Western Ontario in 2009 before continuing her medical training at the University of British Columbia where she was the first graduate of the integrated vascular surgery residency. She also obtained a Masters of Health Sciences at the University of British Columbia during this time completing the program 2013.

Dr Gunn is currently is the vascular surgery lead for the development of the vascular surgery component of Connect Care, AHS's new health record system.

Vascular Surgeon
 

 Dr Cwinn graduated from the University of Ottawa in 2007 with his BSc, followed by his MSc in Biochemistry in 2009.  He obtained his MD from Queen's University in 2013.  His General Surgery Residency was completed at Dalhousie University in Halifax in 2018 and he became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada FRCSC. In 2019, Dr Cwinn completed his RPVI designation (Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation) and in 2020 he completed his Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the University of Manitoba FRCSC Vascular Surgery.  Dr. Cwinn later completed a complex aortic fellowship in Maastricht, Netherlands with a focus on both open and endovascular aortic repair.  



Special Interests and Clinical Practice:

Dr Cwinn's practice encompasses a full spectrum of open and endovascular therapies for vascular disease.  He has a specific interest and expertise in open and endovascular management of complex aortic pathology including thoracic aortic aneurysms, thoracoabdominal aneurysms and aortic dissections. 

His other clinical expertise includes:

Venous and arterial thoracic outlet syndrome

Hemodialysis access

Venous disease.

  Dr Parekh joined Surgicorp and the Northern Alberta Vascular Group in July 2022.

Dr. Parekh graduated from the University of Calgary with his BSc in 2014 and MD in 2017. In 2021, he obtained his Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) certification. He completed his direct entry Vascular Surgery Residency at the University of Manitoba in 2022.  He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC).

  Dr. Aneet Mann joined Surgicorp and the Northern Alberta Vascular group in August 2022. Dr. Mann completed her medical degree at the University of Toronto in 2017. She then went on to complete her residency in vascular surgery at McMaster University in 2022. Following this, she pursued additional training in advanced endovascular aortic surgery at L'Hopital Marie Lannelongue in Paris, France.  


Areas of Clinical Interest:

Dr. Mann’s scope of clinical interests are broad and include open and endovascular management of aortic disease, limb salvage, extra-cranial carotid disease, arterial and venous thoracic outlet syndrome, venous pathologies, and dialysis access. 



General Surgeons

Dr. Curtis Ciona, MD, FRCSC

General & Colorectal Surgeon  


Dr Ciona grew up and graduated high school in St. Albert, he then attended the University of Alberta for science studies. He received a Bachelor of Medical Science in 1990, then his Medical Degree in 1992. He then moved to the Maritimes and did a one year rotating intership at Dalhousie Univeristy that finished in 1993. Dr. Ciona started a 

General Surgery residency at Dalhousie which was completed in 1998. He had a couple of subspecialty interests during his residency. This led him to go to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where he did a fellowship in Colorectal Surgery.

In the summer of 1999, he moved back to Edmonton and started working as a 

General and Colorectal 

Surgeon at the Grey Nun's Hospital, where he continues to work.  As the Grey Nun's is a teaching hospital involved in teaching surgery to medical students and residents.

Dr Ciona does not have any administrative roles currently.


Areas of clinical interest


Dr Ciona's plan is to keep working at the Grey Nun's hospital until he retires.  He enjoys working there and really likes all the staff there and in our office. He  enjoys his practice and his patients, many of whom he still sees since he started over 20 years ago. He finds the work he does for his patients with colorectal cancer very rewarding and believes the patients are appreciative of the work he does for them. The complex proctology work he provides is another part of his practice that he enjoys.

Dr. Erika Haase, MD,CM FRCSC

General Surgical Oncologist, Grey Nuns Hospital


Dr. Erika Haase is a General Surgeon and Surgical Oncologist at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta. She completed her medical school training at McGill University in 1999 and completed her General Surgery Residency at the University of Alberta in 2006 including a Master of Science in Experimental Surgery as part of the Surgeon Scientist program.  Her fellowship (subspecialty) training is in Surgical Oncology, which was completed at the University of Toronto, including specialized training in HIPEC surgery at the University of Calgary, and Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC 2006-2008.

 In 2009, Dr. Haase started the Edmonton (and northern Alberta) HIPEC program at the Grey Nuns Hospital.  HIPEC is a specialized treatment for patients with advanced cancers that have spread within the abdomen, which can be treated with complete resection of the cancer, and Heated IntraPEritoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC).  



Areas of clinical interest

As a Surgical Oncologist, Dr. Haase’s surgical expertise and practice is focused on cancer surgery including colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, appendix cancer, neuro-endocrine tumors and other intra-abdominal cancers, mesothelioma, melanoma, sarcomas and soft tissue tumors. 


Dr. Haase also treats many General Surgery patients, including patients requiring gallbladder surgery, hernias, diverticulitis, bowel obstructions, etc.  She also performs endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) at the Grey Nuns Hospital.

Whether your consultation is for an advanced cancer, or for a small hernia, Dr. Haase will always take the time to explain your diagnosis and the treatment plan and answer all your questions, and provide support to you throughout your surgical journey.

Dr. Kevin Klingbeil, MD, FRCSC

General & Colorectal Surgeon

 
   Kevin Klingbeil is a Colorectal and General Surgeon with the Surgicorp      group, operating primarily out of the Grey Nuns Hospital. He completed an      MD at the University of Alberta in 2007 and then General Surgery residency      between McGill University and the University of Alberta, graduating in      2012. He completed a Colorectal Surgery fellowship at the University of      Calgary in 2014, and undertook post-graduate training in cytoreductive      surgery and HIPEC for advanced GI malignancy in 2014. He is a fellow      (board certified) in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for both general surgery and colorectal surgery. He also attained a Master in Public Health in 2016 from the University of Massachusetts      Amherst.

Dr Klingbeil has been working at the Grey Nuns Hospital and with Surgicorp since 2014, and has been the site lead for General surgery at the Grey Nuns Hospital since 2016.

Dr Klingbeil's areas of interest include colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and benign colorectal disease, and he maintains an elective general surgery and endoscopy practice.    

Dr. Mador, MD, FRCSC

Dr. Jordan Nostedt, MD, FRCSC

General & Trauma Surgeon


Dr, Mador received his BScH in Life Sciences from Queens University in 2006.  He obtained his MD from the University of Calgary in 2009 and completed his General Surgery training at the University of British Columbia in 2014 followed by a trauma & acute care surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto in 2015.  He also obtained a Master's degree in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 2018


Past and Present Appointments


Dr, Mador joined the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta in 2016, where he is a Trauma Surgeon.  He also started working at the Grey Nuns Hospital in 2016 as a General Surgeon. He is the current Program Director for Surgical Foundations, which transitioned to a competency-based model of education in July 2016.

Research interests include acute care surgery, surgical education, and clinical trauma outcomes.

Dr Nostedt joined Surgicorp in July 2022 

Dr. Nostedt completed a BSc in Biomedical Physiology from Simon Fraser  University  in 2011 and then an MD from the University of British  Columbia in 2015. He completed General Surgery residency training at the  University of Alberta in 2022, this included a Master of Science degree  as part of the Clinician Investigator Program in the department of  surgery.


Areas of clinical interest:  

Dr. Nostedt has both an acute care and elective general surgery practice. Electively, he sees patients for gallbladder surgery, perianal disease, open and laparoscopic gastrointestinal and hernia surgery. He also maintains a general endoscopy practice at the Grey Nuns Hospital.
